The desire to create custom design projects is a passion 30 years in the making! Through the years, this skill and vision has grown and perfected itself. A pure passion and desire for architecture, history, and creative design; along with a love for real estate is what has shaped and molded Hedges & Co into what it is today.
All my life, my eyes have followed what is beautiful and unique in this world.; people, places, and things. I see beauty in what is different, and I appreciate the things in this world that stand out from the crowd or command attention for their uniqueness. Mainly, the beauty and inspiration that is ever-present in architecture and real estate, whether it be historical buildings or modern architecture. As a child I would spend hours studying real estate books and design magazines, always noticing the properties that stood out. I have always believed that the creators & designers of homes and buildings are the same as painters and artist who create custom works to be an expression of their inner creativity.
Just as humans, the inside of the structure is just as important, if not more, than what is seen from the outside. The outside has the freedom to be unique and different, but the inside has a purpose to serve. The inside must be functional and practical, while at the same time being at harmony and in sync with how useful the space is. This is where the inside has the upper hand. The inside can be a wreck, while still looking beautiful on the outside. However, the outside is judged for any flaws it may have and can often keep people from ever seeing the greatness inside.
As a designer and creator, it's my passion to discern what may appear on the outside, good or bad, and then see and understand the greatness or lack of greatness that is held within. So many people, just like buildings & homes, only focus on what is seen from the outside. Putting all effort, energy, and resources in what is seen, instead of focusing on the harmony and functionality of the inside. I have seen so many homes and buildings that the outside seems to have everything! It looks like it's perfect and has the nicest finishes, the best materials, and the overall appearance that it has it all. However, the inside has cheap materials, weak structures, and hollow spaces that serve little or no purpose. When you see structures built like this, it makes you realize that the outside is just a cover for the outside world to see.
Having an eye of discernment has allowed me to always see things as they truly are, from the inside out. I always study the inside of structures and the functionality of the interior layout before I put any merit into how the outside appears. The important stuff happens on the inside and true happiness comes from the inside.
When I create custom designs, I always start with what is needed on the inside. For architects and designers, this is the floor plan. For a home, office, or commercial space to be useful, the floor plan must fit the needs and desires of the people who will occupy it. It must function well, it must flow well, and it must bring peace and happiness for the minds and hearts who will be using it. Whether it's a corporate office, a retail space, or a family's home... the inside must be tailored to them, and its bones must be built to withstand the nature of the world outside.
It is not only my job, but my true passion to create interior spaces that bring attention from the outside and put focus on the beauty within. To do this, it is critical that I meet with my clients inside their space. This gives me a vision and inspiration for the potential that lies within. More importantly, I am able to hear what the clients' desires are, hear what the client envisions, and hear what the client needs.
After this, I am able to take my vision and align it with their request.
The end result is a custom designed piece of art that reflects the client within, and displays the creativity, expression, and passion that Hedges & Co is known for.
"Deprived of meaningful work, men and women lose their reason for existence; they go stark, raving mad." - Fyodor Dostoevsky
